Baseball, by the Rules

A ball bounces through the middle of the Baltiomore Orioles' infield for a base hit.
Ground Ball into the Outfield
Once a ground ball gets to the outfield, it’s going to be a base hit— it’s just a matter of how many bases the batter/runner is going to get, as well as how far the other runners are going to advance. Most of the time, the batter will wind up with single base, but with a combination of speed plus good luck (in terms of where the ball winds up), the batter/runner can make their way to second, and possibly beyond— though this also increases the chances that the defense will try to make a play on them. Meanwhile, runners who started the play on either second or third (“scoring position,” in baseball parlance) will almost certainly score.
